Dr. Leo Matsumoto’s passion in life is to help people through health, fitness, and nutrition. He was initially introduced to chiropractic when he threw out his back lifting weights. During his chiropractic treatments, he realized that exercise and nutrition alone was not enough to achieve the ultimate goal of being healthy and pain free. He also realized that the root cause of injuries/conditions come from physical, chemical, mental and emotional stressors that impact your body. Dr. Leo decided to further his education and headed to University of Western States in Portland, OR and completed his Doctor of Chiropractor (DC) degree.
Dr. Leo was born and raised in Japan and moved to Honolulu, HI in his teens. He grew up playing a variety of sports. He moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend college and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oregon State University but pursued a (lengthy) career in health and fitness as a personal trainer due to his love of health and fitness.
He obtained a postgraduate designation of Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician ® (CCSP) by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™ (ACBSP) which certifies those who specialize in physical fitness and the evaluation and treatment of injuries encountered in sports. He is also certified as a Functional Range Conditioning mobility specialist (FRCms), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). Dr. Leo is currently working on becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
In his spare time, he enjoys functional training, Olympic and power lifting, running, and swimming. He also volunteers as a medical staff member for local sporting events (such as AVP, US Open, etc.). Dr. Leo loves spending quality time with his wife, family and their dog Arya.
Dr. Leo tries to live his life by keeping a quote by his hero Bruce Lee in mind:
“To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.”
